Mail Icon Missing from Control Panel

You may find the Mail icon missing from the Control Panel when trying to setup a mail account for Outlook or Outlook Express.  This seems to be a “problem” in Vista 64-bit Edition.  I’ve seen a lot of complicated solutions for this, but usually it’s quite simple.  Vista 64-bit stores 32-bit Control Panel items in a different section (LAME!).  When you’re in the Control Panel, click on Classic View.  Then click on “View 32-bit Control Panel Items”.  Your missing Mail icon should be in there, among other things.  It only took me 30 minutes to find something so simple.  I thought Vista was supposed to make things “easier”.  What a piece of junk!

In case you can’t find the Mail icon with this solution, the other thing you can do is navigate to:   C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12

Double-click on MLCFG32.CPL, and that will also bring up the mail configuration.  You can create a shortcut to this on your desktop or something.  I’m assuming a repair install of Microsoft Office will fix this particular issue if the first fix doesn’t work, but I haven’t tried it.
